MUSIC PRODUCTION

Music production is the process of creating and recording music using various techniques and technologies. It involves everything from songwriting and arranging to recording, mixing, and mastering. Music producers are responsible for overseeing the entire process and ensuring that the final product meets the artist's vision and industry standards. In this class, we will cover the six stages of:

  • Songwriting
  • Arrangement
  • Tracking
  • Editing
  • Mixing
  • Mastering

To learn how to produce music for beginners, you will need the necessary equipment to create a finished track. The main components of a starter set up include:

- Computer (Desktop or Laptop): To host your music production software
-
DAW (Digital Audio Workstation): The program on your computer where you will write, produce, record, mix, and master your music. Examples are: Garage Band, Logic Pro, Cubase, ProTools, Studio One, and Ableton Live.

- Audio Interface: To convert microphone and instrument signals into a format your computer and software recognize.

- Headphones/Monitors: A decent speaker or headphone setup to hear all of the frequencies leveled out equally.

- Microphone: If you’re recording your own music tracks, an all-round mic is a good starting point.

- Plug-ins: Most DAWs come with high-quality plugins for the production, mixing and mastering process.
